Business Challenge- Faced with rapid growth, the existing MS Access database was proving inadequate for all the queries and reporting needs. In addition, client was experiencing data corruption and loss due to lack of referential integrity of the data. Another, big concern was the maintenance of the system. Over its life span, multiple developers, some experienced and some not, had been involved with the implementation efforts without any clear guidelines or structure; therefore, leading to inconsistency and a nightmare when it came to understanding the existing code.
How PROACE Helped- After purging the dirty data, the backend of the database was converted to SQL Server for scalability and growth. Then the data structure was normalized in order to eliminate redundancies, improve performance, create consistency, and to enforce referential integrity. We then modified the interface layer to fit the new data structure. Capital Idea is now operating on a normalized database and is working with PROACE to upgrade the interface to the .NET framework in order to make its application available via the web.
